Flutter in the Dovecote

A ecumenical satire - you laugh all the way. The confusion and the thought process of the reverends and mother superiors discribed beautifully - and ah in a very funny funny way.

James Wharton, Bishop of Timfristos finds out that a mother superior is gifted by a modern artist one of his creation that, according to the creator, is 'Answer to maidens prayer'. The object of painting being a male organ. The Bishop is alarmed and starts his journey across country side to find out in which convent the painting is. And when he finds it out, it turns out to be a 'Maiden at prayer' . But long before this happens, Bishop comes to see a nun in without the leaves, which leads to a compramise.

Even though the theme was good and foundation superb, the author, Bruce Marshall, mixes it up towards the end by making the subject of the painting russian missile!!! May be he wanted it to be too much funny but i bet he regret it now!!!

PS: I dint get the coverpage, so no pic to shack in the memories.

Heaven's Edge

A love story, a journey back to seek the identity, the new hope - all set in the background of a war. Romesh Gunashekra tries his best to convince you about his oratory skills but he fails utterly. It shouldn't be counted as novel but as a long 230 page poem .

he story begins with a srilankan settled in london,Marc, coming back to seek his real identity and to know more about his fathers death, who was fighter pilot . His grandfather Eldon had left the place long back ago. By the way did i mention the story is set in the future, some 30 odd years from now. In the mean time he meets a young girl, Uva,an ecologist or you could call an eco warrior and falls in love with her. She becomes his new hope and a reason for new beginning. But when she is gone missing, he comes in contact with the ugly face of the war . Gunashekra tries his best to emulate the war woes through a drowsy piece of pace. i took a week and half to read it, that too wouldn't have finished if the library due hadn't come up.

Read it if you have no other book to read.
